Flip It
Upside down text generator
(╯°□°)╯︵ ┻━┻ — sometimes a post deserves flipped furniture. This tool rotates your text 180° using real turned letters from Unicode and reverses it, so it reads correctly when you flip your phone. The Upside Down style is pinned first below.

How upside down text works
There is no "rotate" button for plain text, so flipped text is built letter by letter from characters that happen to be rotations of Latin letters: ɐ is a turned a, ɥ a turned h, ʇ a turned t. Capitals borrow from stranger corners of Unicode — ∀ is the mathematician's "for all", ⊥ is a logic symbol, ⅄ a turned sans Y. After every character is swapped, the whole string is reversed, because a 180° rotation also flips reading order. Your phone is doing no work at all: the text itself is upside down.
A few compromises are unavoidable. Some letters rotate onto other letters (b becomes q, d becomes p, n becomes u), a handful (H, I, O, S, X, Z) are their own rotations, and exotic punctuation may pass through unflipped. The Mirror style in the grid is the close cousin — it flips text horizontally instead, so it reads correctly in a mirror.
Good uses for flipped text
- Comments and replies — the classic home of (╯°□°)╯︵ ┻━┻ and its aftermath, ┬──┬ ノ( ゜-゜ノ).
- "Greetings from Australia" jokes and southern-hemisphere team chats.
- Puzzle and spoiler posts — text that's legible only if you bother to flip it.
- Usernames and statuses that make people tilt their heads — use sparingly.
Frequently asked questions
Why is the text also reversed?
Rotating a sign 180° turns it around and upside down — the first letter ends up last. The generator reverses the order so the flipped text reads left-to-right correctly once rotated.
Why did b become q and d become p?
Because rotated, that's what they are. A turned b genuinely looks like a q, and Unicode includes those turned shapes as separate characters. It is the same trick nature plays on "MOM" and "WOW".
Does upside down text work on Instagram and Discord?
Yes, it is plain Unicode text and pastes anywhere. A few turned letters may show as boxes on very old devices — H, O and the a/e/o vowels are the safest.
Can I flip the text back?
Paste the flipped text into this generator and apply Upside Down again — flipping twice returns (very nearly) the original, though letters that borrowed other letters' shapes may come back changed.
